DOC NITERS>>>>>>>>>>

sorry to do this with such late notice....i just found out about this event.  There is a preview of a what looks to be a very cool film, KING CORN , showing at the Faulkner gallery at 6:30 tonite.  I don't like to do this switch up so last minute but rather than compete with this event, i think we should support it.  Please read below for more info.  We'll be back on track July 2 at the Pescadrome.

thanks,
Renée

Friends,

Next Monday night (JUNE 18, 6:30 PM), please join me, Slow Food Santa Barbara, the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Funders group, and Soujourner Cafe for an evening of discussion about food, farming, and how policy shapes what's in our stores and in our bodies.  The main event is a great documentary that is not even out yet. --> http://kingcorn.net/about.html

Program:

  1. Intro, mind-blowing food facts, context, and prizes
  2. FEATURE PRESENTATION: King Corn, a brand-new feature-length documentary from Mosaic Films, Inc.  This film should be a hit.  We have special permission from the filmmakers to show it pre-release to a community audience!  It is really awesome, not preachy, just really interesting, educational, and well done.  Great original soundtrack too!  If you liked Micheal Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, this is very much in the same vein.
  3. Followed by a discussion led by UCSB professors David Cleveland and Daniela Soleri.
Seating is limited, so be prompt.  Please pass this on to anyone else you know who is interested in learning more and contributing to a discussion about our food system! Contact me with any questions-- I really hope to see you there!
